Vassilyi Medvedyev is a well known name to the older public of Vanemuine Theatre  in the 1980s he staged several ballets: A Benefice, Birth of Dance, Satanilla or Love and Hell, Prince of the Pagodas, etc
In autumn 2007 in Tartu Vassilyi Medvedyev's ballet version of Tchaikovsky's best known and best loved opera Eugene Onegin will be staged, based on Aleksandr Pushkin's famous novel in verse. Two sisters, Tatyana and Olga are waiting for Olga's beloved, Lenski and his friend Onegin. Tatyana, being only seventeen years old, falls in love with Onegin, who is older, and she writes him a passionate letter. Onegin, however, rejects her love tenderly but firmly. Instead, he starts courting Tatyana's elder sister, Olga, insulting thus his friend Lenski. At the duel that follows Onegin kills Lenski but afterwards resigns from society out of regret. Years later, returning, he meets Tatyana again and falls in love at first sight. He declares his love but it is too late  Tatyana recognizes her love but remains true to her husband.
